Rebel Souls and Roaring Engines: Jack McLean’s Explosive Solo Exhibition Captures the Raw Spirit of Rock and Roll Culture
The thunderous roar of vintage British motorcycles meets the rebellious spirit of rock and roll in Jack McLean’s electrifying solo exhibition, opening at JPS Gallery. “A Thousand Rockers + Edinburgh Burn Up and Other Stories” is not just an art show—it is a cultural manifesto that captures the raw energy, community bonds, and existential searching that define both the rocker lifestyle and the artistic journey itself.
McLean’s artistic odyssey began in childhood, listening to his mother spin Eddie Cochran and Jerry Lee Lewis records on the family turntable. That early exposure to rock and roll’s primal energy would prove prophetic, eventually evolving through teenage encounters with The Clash and Sex Pistols into a lifelong fascination with the intersection of music, motorcycles, and rebellion. “The speed and danger from riding a motorbike definitely enhances the energy,” McLean reflects. “It all seems to fit together, and I’m happy to say not much has changed since my youth.”
