Utopia

This exhibition centres around asking the world one vital question: can a perfect world ever be realised? After highlighting the current refugee and climate crisis in my previous show Reality, I started to imagine a Plan B – a fantasy of a perfect new world without any damage, a Utopia where no one is the victim of manmade disasters.

The term "utopia" was coined by Sir Thomas More for his book Utopia (1516). In his book, More imagines a complex, self-contained community set on an island, in which people share a common culture and way of life. Taken from the Greek word eutopos meaning 'a good place', Utopia refers to an imaginary world where everything is perfect.

Under intense globalisation, we are more connected to one another than ever. In one way or another, we are one common entity who share the responsibilities and duties for the world.
