The work of Christian Aagaard Ovesen explores the shifting boundaries between human development and the natural world, focusing on how landscapes, organisms, and ecosystems adapt to constant change. He is drawn to the tension between growth and displacement, where urban expansion reshapes delicate ecologies and forces new forms of coexistence. Inspired by speculative narratives, he considers alternative futures that hold both grief and resilience, examining how life persists, mutates, and reclaims space in environments shaped by human presence.
A central part of his practice involves long walks during which he collects materials such as snail shells, metal fragments, and organic debris. The traces of both natural and human-made worlds are woven together into sculptural work and through this process, he considers the ways in which various ecosystems and cities overlap, creating spaces where the organic and the artificial are no longer separate but entangled. The collected elements not only inform his sculptures but also inspire his drawings, in which he tries to capture subtle intersections between nature and human infrastructure.
