Hyunan Rhee hones in on life’s core, portraying the visual narratives of the world around us and the universal human experience. His sharp eye for landscapes, objects, and living beings enables him to shape his artistic world in monochrome.
In Rhee’s art, he captures fleeting moments, echoing the impermanence of time and life. He showcases fragments of daily life that intrigue him, adopting the perspective of a silent observer to prompt reflection on the relationships between feelings, human life, and nature. His pieces, which extract these everyday fragments, encourage us to pause and ponder over moments that might otherwise slip past unnoticed.
Rhee’s visual narratives not only depict scenes visually but also draw viewers into the specific moments by incorporating sensory details like temperature, scent, and sound. This immersion invites us to uncover the hidden beauty in our fast-paced environments, beauty we often overlook in our rush.
Born in Masan, South Korea, Hyunan Rhee spent his childhood and formative years by the seaside. After graduating from Dongguk University majoring in painting, Rhee moved to Paris to continue his artistic pursuit. Rhee is currently living and working in Paju, South Korea.
