Embracing the fluidity of changing currents and shifting tides, Chaix invites viewers to immerse themselves into the vibrant life beneath the surface.

In her upcoming solo exhibition at JPS Gallery Tokyo, Corinne Chaix, the French-born artist based in Venice-California, presents two immersive, aquatic installations while playfully exploring the themes of confinement, adaptation and the tension between reality and illusion.

Like film narratives, Chaix's works give viewers plot clues; however even if most of the elements are usually painted with great detail, nothing can really be identified with certainty. The interpretation largely depends on how one regards the images and what one is willing to believe. Chaix encourages the viewers to engage actively and become part of the unfolding narrative.

HydroCosm is a metaphorical space of personal reflection, creativity, and inner exploration. The show intends to create a reflective bubble and foster introspection and imaginative thinking.

While her work vividly explores her profound imagination and reverence for our evolving marine environment, Corinne Chaix does not intend to provide practical solutions to our shifting climate. Instead, she offers something equally vital: a catalyst for imagination, wonder, and dialogue. Embracing intentional ambiguity, Chaix invites viewers to discover their own personal meanings within her work. She thrives on using art to spark conversation and is eager to hear the unique perspectives each visitor brings to her paintings. By guiding us from a surreal underwater encounter, through resilient mangrove shores, and finally into the depths of her own mind, Chaix affirms that even in the midst of profound environmental and emotional shifts, we possess the ingenuity to adapt, the imagination to dream, and the capacity to uncover our own sanctuary—in the deep.
