This holiday season, Hong Kong artist Cynthia Mak is set to transform the prestigious Isetan Shinjuku department store into a vibrant canvas of joy and creativity infused with festive cheer. Her celebratory showcase will feature a lively collection of paintings and meticulously handcrafted sculptures displayed throughout the fourth and fifth floors, enhancing the holiday shopping experience with a burst of colour and creativity.
Drawing inspiration from the extensive history of ornaments—objects that have long functioned as vessels of storytelling and carriers of cultural significance—Cynthia's latest series revitalises these timeless symbols of memory and tradition. Her artworks reinterpret these symbols through her distinctive style, characterised by colourful geometric shapes and abstract figures. Her creations masterfully bridge the gap between ancient wisdom and contemporary artistic expression.
