Mao Yu Qiu, who is currently based in Paris, creates works that are mainly in the form of installations and comics dealing with interpersonal relationships and the struggles that arise from them. Her creations are a response to the various forms of microaggression she observed throughout shifting power dynamics within social groups. And by transforming such gestures into everyday objects, she aims to satisfy the desire for power even for the slightest moment.
She explores the dynamics of power and hidden violence in interpersonal relationships through her innovative works. Fascinated by the subtle gestures individuals use to gain influence, she examines how these behaviors transform into mutual, gentle violence, creating scenarios with offenders and the offended. By combining these hidden forces with gestures and tools, she transforms them into everyday objects that explore and test the invisible boundaries of relationships, offering a poetic reflection on human interactions.
