MINYOUNG KIM

South Korea | B.1989

Intrigued by phenomenology––the philosophical study of human beings’ lived experience and consciousness. Minyoung Kim’s work mirrors her innermost feelings, ones that language fails to express. Using un-stretched raw canvases, she portrays ironic scenes in a soft manner that combines what she believes to be strange yet cute elements. She explores and reveals her inner self in this ambivalence between light-hearted and seriousness.

Minyoung Kim was born in Seoul in 1989 and currently lives and works in London. Graduating from The Slade School of Fine Art in 2021, Kim also holds an MFA in printmaking and a BA in Western Painting from Sungshin Women’s University, Seoul, South Korea. Previous solo exhibitions have been showcased at Aout Gallery (Beirut), Place Mak (Seoul), Seogyo Art Space (Seoul), and various other Seoul-based spaces. Recent group exhibitions have been presented at The National Taiwan Arts Education Centre (Taipei), Artime Art Centre (China) and Fortnight Institute (New York), to name a few.
