JPS Area 36 is proud to present “Something, changed.”, an exhibition of paintings by b.wing, on view at the gallery’s Tokyo location. The exhibition marks the artist’s first solo show with the gallery, presenting a series of new paintings that the artist took inspiration from a childhood accident, exploring its effect in her artistic oeuvre and mentality.

Featuring the artist’s signature character, A-boy, b.wing recalls the personal experience of the accident through his point of view. The presented paintings evoke the innocence of childhood while reflecting on the impact of the experience on the start of her artistic journey, her way of creating as well as her psychological change. With her painterly dynamics around color, light and expressive brushwork, the exhibition reveals an intimate visual documentary of b.wing’s memories and deep self-reflection, reviewing that one crucial event in her childhood that causes the significant change in her life.

Since his creation, b.wing has had a close relationship with A-boy. The boy with a pair of big sad eyes is, in a way, is a reflection of the artist and her mentality. The seemingly taciturn character expresses his inner feelings, wild imaginations, desires, thoughts through his expressions and short sentences. Just as the artist once said, ‘I believe a painting reflects the mind of the painter, his deepest feelings.’ For b.wing, her art arises from direct experience; her works are a reflection of her inner feelings and psychological state, which is often time manifested through the sensitive and naïve eye of A-boy. Her works are authentically sensible, with subtle but amiable perception, which moved many around the globe.
