In a brilliant collision of artistic vision and cultural revolution, JPS Gallery joins forces with powerhouse publication ONBEAT to present GIRL POWER 2.0—an electrifying reimagination of feminist discourse in contemporary art. Opening on April 12, 2025 at JPS Gallery Tokyo, this fearless showcase marks not just a sequel but a powerful evolution from the groundbreaking GIRL POWER exhibition that first stunned the Tokyo art scene in 2020.

Over the five transformative years since the original exhibition, the cultural conversation surrounding feminism, gender equality, and the female gaze has undergone profound shifts. GIRL POWER 2.0 captures this pivotal moment of change, presenting a unified vision from six exceptional artists—Ai Ohkawara, Aiko Sakamoto, KAKA KYLIN, Marino, Reina, and Saki Fujikawa—who refuse to be confined by conventional feminist narratives.

This extraordinary constellation of artists transforms the exhibition into a vibrant tapestry of distinctive styles and themes: Ai Ohkawara’s powerful works embrace the beauty of imperfection, deliberately celebrating asymmetry and incompleteness, inviting us to appreciate diversity through the lens of our flaws. Aiko Sakamoto’s enchanting blue-hued creations, adorned with butterfly imagery and light-reflecting pigments, depict human existence as a harmonious blend with the unseen yet profoundly real essence of the heart. KAKA KYLIN delves into boundless possibilities of thought, using spontaneous strokes to sketch miniature universes, drawing from her dual background in fine arts and fashion design. Marino’s semi-three-dimensional paintings evoke ambiguous, ethereal realities that resonate deeply within the viewer’s subconscious. Reina’s captivating pieces translate wisdom from global myths and folktales onto canvas, exploring creation stories and our interconnectedness with all beings. Saki Fujikawa’s expressive oil paintings convey powerful emotional currents through rich layers and dynamic brushstrokes, each canvas reflecting her ongoing dialogue with the world.

What makes GIRL POWER 2.0 revolutionary is its refusal to provide easy answers. Instead of offering a single unified vision of contemporary feminism, it celebrates the beautiful complexity of multiple, sometimes contradictory perspectives. The exhibition space transforms into a dynamic forum where historical perspectives meet future possibilities, cultivating an exhilarating atmosphere of intellectual and artistic exploration.
