JPS Gallery is proud to present Within My Essence, a solo exhibition by legendary New York graffiti artist Cope2. For decades, Cope2 has made his mark through subway train tags and large-scale murals, with his iconic bubble-letter tags and distinct abstract expressionist style becoming a familiar sight across New York City.
This exhibition, held in Tokyo’s gallery space, will recreate the atmosphere of New York’s streets, offering visitors an immersive and thrilling experience.
On display is a new series of works inspired by New York subway signs and maps. Cope2 masterfully blends traditional graffiti techniques with contemporary art styles, and his unique talent is more evident than ever in these pieces. Through a dynamic use of color palettes, mediums, and imagery, each work—whether a tag, spray-painted piece, or mixed-media canvas—radiates the vibrant, diverse spirit of New York, possessing a life of its own.
Graffiti serves as a visual language that responds to shifts in social, cultural, and physical environments. Cope2 communicates through this evolving visual code, and nothing captures his unrestrained essence better than the New York subway signs he once tagged himself.
Adding to the excitement, Cope2 will also perform live painting at the Tokyo gallery, creating spontaneous masterpieces on-site. These works will be displayed alongside the pieces in the Within My Essence exhibition, enhancing the dynamic energy of the show.
